On May 30th, Servier published its 2022 Corporate Social Responsibility report. This publication showcases progress achieved on its four areas of commitments:
- committed to healthcare;
- caring about people;
- focused on its business practices;
- aiming for a positive footprint.
Servier has developed several core programs to create a lasting and positive impact, centered around circular economy through eco-design of products, collaboration with partners, promoting diversity and inclusion in the workplace, as well as transitioning towards green and local developments.
Regarding the protection of the environment, Servier committed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25% between 2016 and 2030, validating its strategy by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). In 2019, it had already achieved a reduction of 13% of its greenhouse gas emissions for each box of medicine produced as compared to 2016. In the same objective, its production plants are increasingly using more renewable energy (such as in Spain), while some air transport flows are replaced by maritime transport on the routes that can support it. .
This commitment has further translated into Servier’s relations with its partners. As part of its CSR project First class partner, Servier commits to purchasing products that emit or pollute less. It also ensures that its suppliers and subcontractors are engaged in a CSR approach and are committed to reducing their greenhouse gas emissions.
These undertakings echo the commitment made by the European Commission to reduce the EU’s net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030. With the European Parliament having just adopted several proposals to deliver the EU’s climate target, it shows the increased importance for companies to align their CSR strategies with the EU’s objectives, notably through responsible purchasing and circular economy. On that point, Servier has launched the project EcoDesign by Servier, which looks at integrating eco-design principles into each step of the life cycle of the medicine including the packaging of its innovative portfolio.
Finally, Servier’s CSR strategy goes beyond its climate and environmental commitment by looking to ensure employees’ well-being and safety. While 45% of managers at Servier are already women, it launched the #ServierDiversity program to further promote equal opportunities by addressing five priorities:
- promoting gender equality in the workplace and fighting against the glass ceiling;
- increasing the diversity of training and career paths;
- developing a multicultural environment;
- growing and developing with the contribution of newcomers;
- fighting against self-censorship.
